A Study on the Systolic Time Intervals in Normal Koreans

Abstract
The systolic time intervals were useful for assessing left ventricular performance and their measurement was a sensitive, easily repeatable and simple nonivasive test.
The systolic time, intervals were measured with simultaneous recording of electrocardiogram, phonocardiogram and carotid pulse tracing in 171 normal individuals, and the systolic time interval indices calculated by the regression equations of Weissler¢¥s formula were also obtained.
The results were¢¥summarized as follows.
1. The normal values of QS2, LVET, PEP, QS, and ICT were 372¡¾31mses, 279¡¾30msec, 93¡¾17mse, 54¡¾25msec and 42¡¾19msec, respecitvely.
The"¢¥normal values of QS2I, LVETI, PEPI, QS1I and ICTI were 522¡¾22msec, 399¡¾22msec, 122¡¾17msec, 77¡¾19msec and 45¡¾19msec, respectively.
2. The normal value of PEP/LVET ratio was 0.34¡¾0.07.
3. Regression equations of systolic time intervals to heart rate were as follows; QS2=-1.76HR+492 in male (r=-0.71, p<0.001)
-1.85HR+515 in female (r=-0.69, p<0.001)
LVET=-1.20HR+362 in male (r=-0.51, p<0.001)
-2.35HR+456 in female (r=-0.86, p<0.001)
QS1=-0.25HR¡¾72 in male (r=-0.15, P>0.10)
-0. 8HR+60 in female (r=-0.05, p>0.50)
PEP=-0.18HR+103 in male (r=-0.13, p>0.20)
-0.17HR+111 in female (r=-0.11, p>0.20)
ICT=-0.23HR+57 in male (r=-0.15, p>0.10)
-0.15HR+54 in female (r=-0.04, P<0.50)
4. The QS2I and PEPI were significantly more lengthened in females than in males.
5. The lengthening of QS2I and LVETI up to 4th and 5th decade respectively, and the shortening of A2D after 3rd decade were observed with advancing age.
